The Similarities Between Fishing and Marketing

Here is an interesting analogy around the similarities between fishing and marketing. Have you considered how this could be applied to marketing your business?

Firstly, one of the important things when it comes to marketing is where to market our product.

With fishing, the very first thing we think about is where the fish are and where a good fishing spot may be. This is the same with marketing: where is our target market? Which social media platforms do they usually use? What events do they usually attend? Answers to questions like these will determine how you strategise your marketing reach.

Secondly, the choice of bait is important in fishing – depending on the kind of fish you are after.

When it comes to marketing, you need to determine what that bait is for your customers. Is your offer attractive enough for your customers? If not, consider changing the offer.

Thirdly, it is all about trial and error.

If you don’t get some bites in that first half-hour, perhaps it is time to move to another spot. It is important to test and measure the effectiveness of your variables – the bait, the location, the rod etc. Always keep refining your strategies and variables until you get what you are after.

The is also the same with marketing. Are you getting the responses you are after? Are you getting the right engagement and enough clicks? If you are getting your desired results, keep doing what you are doing. If not, try a different strategy. Maybe try a different offer or other approaches to drive the outcomes you want.
