4 Tips To Hire Great People For Your Business

4 Tips To Hire Great People For Your Business

Hiring employees can be a big decision as a business owner.

If you hire the right person, they are going to be a great asset for your business and help you move your business forward.

However, if you hire the wrong person, it is going to cost you a considerable amount of time and money.  Not to mention the frustration and stress.

Follow these four valuable tips to help you hire great people for your business:

1) Be clear on the type of person you are after.

You can start by listing down the appropriate qualities of an ideal applicant who is able to fit into your business. What are the skills, attitudes and personality? It will be more obvious to see who fits the bill and who does not when you have clearly listed what you seek. This will make the hiring process easier.

2) Think of recruitment as marketing.

Marketing is about communicating the right message to the right audience. Be clear in deciding who your ideal applicant is. That will determine how to best word your job advertisement and where you should place it. Ask yourself where can you find potential candidates in high concentrations? What is important to them? Why would they want to work for you versus your competition?

When you are clear on the answers to these questions you can tailor your recruitment messages so they are relevant and attractive to your target employees.

3) Hire slow. Fire fast.

Hiring slow and firing fast is an old but wise adage that still rings true today. Don’t settle for the best candidate out of a bad bunch.

It is crucial to be patient during the hiring process. If you have put up your job advertisement in the right place for the right target audience and still have not gotten the right person, keep repeating the process until you do.

4) Uncover attitudes, skills and behaviour.

Use your recruitment process to uncover the attitude, skills and behaviour of candidates.  A great way to do this is to run group interview sessions. By doing it this way, you can uncover the way people dress, behave and think before they start working for you.  Doing is this way you can discover things like:

  • How they interact in a group?
  • How they participate in activities and games?
  • How they greet you?
  • Are they on time or are they late?
  • How do they interact with the other people?
  • How do they interact with other members of your team?
  • How well do they ask questions?
  • How well do they listen?

You can discover a lot about a person’s behaviour when you put them into situations like this Also consider conducting a skills test or assign a test project so that you can ensure they are a great fit for your business before you hire them.

By following these tips, you can find the right person who will help grow your business and take it to new levels.

And remember, “Never take the best of a bad bunch.”

Clear mindset and work life balance

Brett Anthony – Brett Anthony & Associates

The training and years of interaction we shared helped set me on the right path, shaping the mindset and framework I still rely on today. My business has never been better, and more importantly, I have found a great balance between work and home life, something I do not believe would have been possible without Rueben’s coaching and the invaluable lessons I learned during our time together. Highly recommend.
